Apple Unveils iPhone XS, XS Max & XR

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 13-09-2018

As expected, Apple has unveiled three new iPhones, the iPhoneXs, iPhoneXs Max and iPhoneXr.

The 5.8-inch iPhone XS and 6.5-inch iPhone XS Max feature Super Retina displays, a faster and improved dual camera system and the first 7-nanometer chip in a smartphone, the A12 Bionic chip with next-generation Neural Engine which can process 5 trillion operations per second.

Launched at the Steve Jobs Theatre in Cupertino on Wednesday, the brand new iPhone Xs (pronounced “tennis”) looks a lot like last year’s iPhone X.

Apple says both phones are encased in its most durable glass, with greater water resistance than previous models.
Both the Xs and the Xs Max use Face ID, like the iPhone X. They come with dual-lens cameras, 4K video capabilities, and a “smart” HDR feature.

The 12-megapixel dual camera system features dual optical image stabilisation with 2x optical zoom, while a new sensor is twice as fast. Smart HDR creates photos with more highlights and shadow detail.

The new Depth Control allows users to dynamically adjust the depth of field in the Photos app both in real-time preview and post-capture to create portraits with a background blur. Portrait mode with Depth Control is also available on the TrueDepth camera for selfies, which includes Memoji and faster face tracking support for third-party ARKit apps.

The phones also come with up to 512 GB of storage, which means if you want to spend the extra cash for all that storage, you can take way more photos before your iPhone annoyingly prompts you to clear up some space.

The Xs costs $999—same as last year’s iPhone X—and the Xs Max goes for $1,099 and is available in gold, silver, or space gold.

One more thing… Apple also introduced The 6.1-inch iPhone Xr is between the size of an iPhone 8 and an iPhone 8 Plus, with a new LCD display that Apple calls Liquid Retina Display with the battery lasting an hour and a half longer than the iPhone 8 Plus.

iPhone XR features a 12-megapixel f/1.8 aperture wide-angle lens with an all-new sensor, delivering faster auto-focus, while larger and deeper pixels improve image fidelity and low-light performance on photos and videos.

The Xr comes with Face ID doing away with the home button and has the A12 Bionic chip inside. The device comes in all kinds of funky colors, like yellow, coral, and blue and goes for $749.

With South Africa being now on the tier 2 distribution list, the new iPhones Xs, Xs Max and Xr will be available in South Africa from 28 September with pricing for the devices yet to be released.

To cap off the, CEO Tim Cook announced a few updates including some new features for Apple’s HomePod speaker which allows you to search song lyrics and … set multiple timers at once. There also updates for Apple TV with tvOS 12 with Dolby Atmos, watchOS 5, and iOS 12. The updates land on September 17th, while macOS Mojave will drop on September 24th.
