Former Public Protector Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane has announced her decision to join the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), marking her first foray into the political realm. In an interview on Radio Islam International, Advocate Mkhwebane highlighted her enthusiasm for the party’s grassroots activism and its dedication to addressing people’s struggles.

“The EFF, they are on the ground. They are concerned about people’s struggles,” Mkhwebane stated. “I’m interested and excited about the seven cardinal treatments, which is relating to expropriation of land, the issue of nationalisation of mines and banks, the issue relating to dealing with corruption, and which is my specialty, that one, and I have a lot of experience in that,” she added, emphasising her alignment with the party’s key principles.

Reflecting on her contentious history with the EFF, particularly the initial criticism from Julius Malema, she drew a parallel with Nelson Mandela’s journey, citing the potential for evolving perspectives. “The EFF has seen my work, 13 audits, and they improved 90% helping the public, serving the public genuinely,” she explained, noting the shift in the party’s perception of her.

Addressing her future in politics, Mkhwebane affirmed her commitment to continue safeguarding the public from both state and private sector abuses. Undeterred by her recent impeachment, she asserted her intention to legally challenge the process, underscoring its alleged irregularities and lack of due process.

Clarifying her ongoing entitlements, she dismissed the notion of a tarnished reputation, citing her extensive record of serving the public and championing good governance. Mkhwebane expressed her determination to use her political platform to expose those attempting to defame her.

As the conversation turned to international affairs, Advocate Mkhwebane condemned the recent violence in Gaza, expressing deep sorrow for the lives lost. “No person deserves to die like this,” she declared, reaffirming the EFF’s stance against such atrocities.
