Or ˹are you not aware of˺ the one who passed by a city which was in ruins. He wondered, “How could Allah bring this back to life after its destruction?” So Allah caused him to die for a hundred years then brought him back to life. Allah asked, “How long have you remained ˹in this state˺?” He replied, “Perhaps a day or part of a day.” Allah said, “No! You have remained here for a hundred years! Just look at your food and drink—they have not spoiled. ˹But now˺ look at ˹the remains of˺ your donkey! And ˹so˺ We have made you into a sign for humanity. And look at the bones ˹of the donkey˺, how We bring them together then clothe them with flesh!”1 When this was made clear to him, he declared, “˹Now˺ I know that Allah is Most Capable of everything.”

Two palatine bones
What are Palatine bones
The palatine bone is a facial bone that contributes to the structure of the skull and the anatomy (structure) of the face. It is situated at the back of the nasal cavity and the roof of the mouth (oral cavity). It is a paired bone, with one located on the left and one on the right side of the skull. Here are some key points about the palatine bone:
Where is it situated
Location: Allah has created the palatine bone in paired, meaning there are two palatine bones in the skull, one on each side. Each bone is shaped somewhat like an “L” and consists of a horizontal plate and a perpendicular plate. Together with the maxilla bone, the palatine bone forms the posterior (The opposite of anterior) two-thirds of the hard palate, providing support and stability for the structures of the mouth.
Anatomy (structure): The horizontal plate of the palatine bone contributes to the posterior portion of the hard palate, which forms the roof of the mouth.
Articulations: The palatine bone articulates with several other bones of the skull, including the maxilla(jaw or jawbone), sphenoid bone (still to be discussed), ethmoid bone (still to be discussed), and inferior nasal concha.
Specialties Function: The palatine bone has several important functions in the body, including:
Structural support: The palatine bone helps to support and stabilize the surrounding facial structures, including the nasal cavity (inside of the nose), the hard palate, and the orbit (the cavity in the skull of a vertebrate that contains the eye; the eye socket).
Respiratory function: The palatine bone plays a crucial role in the respiratory system by helping to support and protect the nasal cavity and the nasal septum.
Speech and swallowing: The palatine bone is also involved in the production of speech and the process of swallowing. The hard palate, which is formed by the palatine bone, helps to separate the nasal cavity from the oral cavity, allowing for the production of distinct nasal and oral sounds. The palatine bone also helps to support the muscles involved in swallowing, allowing for the smooth movement of food and liquids from the mouth to the esophagus.
Foramina and Canals: The palatine bone contains several foramina (openings) and canals that transmit nerves and blood vessels. These include the greater and lesser palatine foramina, which allow passage for nerves and blood vessels supplying the palate.
Overall, the palatine bone plays a crucial role in the structure of the oral and nasal cavities, as well as in the stability and articulation of the facial skeleton.
