Embark on a journey though the incredible and diverse lands of India. Known for its vibrant culture, historical landmarks, and breathtaking landscapes, India offers an array of experiences that captivate every traveller’s heart. From the bustling streets of Mumbai to the serene backwaters of Kerala, there is something for everyone in this enchanting country.

For South Africans, applying for visa for India can be done online via the website www.indiavisaonline.gov.in  with the relevant supporting documents uploaded, and it is free of charge. Zuber Patrawala, a travel agent based in Mumbai in India, says that the best time to visit India is from October to March, before the heat and the monsoons set in.

First time visitors to India should include the Golden Triangle as part of their tour. This covers the capital city Delhi which can be the base for travellers wanting to visit the North of India; the city of Agra, home to the world-famous Taj Mahal; and Jaipur, the pink city. Other areas like the Rajasthan Province boasts palaces, sand dunes, and forts as well as the rich culturally historic region of Lucknow situated in Uttar Pradesh, and Kashmir with its large Muslim population that is also known as the Switzerland of India. Towards the South of India, Hyderabad or Bangalore can be used as a base for tourists wanting to visit the cities of Chennai and Kerala.

Accommodation in India ranges from 2 star to 5 star and deluxe and is suitable for every type of budget. Travel through and around India is safe, affordable and accessible although certain modes of travel like trains should be booked in advance.

India has a Muslim population of approximately 200 million, with the second largest number of Muslims in the world. Islam in India is widely practiced with masaajid abounding in every area, but with the current political situation, there are challenges for Muslim citizens in different areas under the rule of different government bodies.

Some of the best dishes India has to offer include different types of biryani, Rogan Josh, Butter Chicken, Nihari, a variety of kebabs, dosa, veda, idli, and many other types of deliciously spicy foods.

The country of India has many varied types of experiences to offer to tourists from all backgrounds, and most visitors to India will want to return to the country over and over again!
