Is it Sunnah to bring gifts when returning from a journey?

IAnswer: It is Mustahab (recommend) to bring back gifts for one’s family.

Sayyida Aaisha Radiyallahu Anhu reports that Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said: “When you return from a journey, bring back some gifts for your family members, even if it means bringing some stones.” [Ibn Hibban]

The words ‘bring back stones’ could be implied literally. In that case, it would mean beautiful stones of a foreign land. Secondly, it could be an exaggeration, in which case it would stress the importance of bringing back something, no matter how insignificant it may be. [ Sublime Conduct Page 477]
