In today’s competitive job market, you need more than simply sending out resumes and attending a few interviews to secure your dream job. Instead, it requires careful planning, proactive networking and a keen understanding of leveraging digital platforms to stand out to potential employers.

We explore two components of a successful job search journey: developing a strategic job search plan and cultivating a strong online presence.

Radio Islam International discussed the key elements of a well-crafted job search plan from the perspective of Career Coach Farhana Hassim.

According to Hassim, a job search plan is a blueprint where desired achievements are written down. The plan also looks at various ways to apply for jobs.

“You have to be very intentional when writing a job search plan. The plan includes various ways of applying for jobs, from registering your CV on various portals to partnering with various recruitment agencies specific to your field and industry, as well as how you will be using LinkedIn,” says Hassim.

Hassim pointed out that the job search plan should contain a targeted search, looking at specific companies you wish to apply to and not just forwarding your CV to every company out there because it is daunting.

The job search plan covers areas for improvement and goal setting. Depending on specific needs, various platforms offer opportunities to upskill.

Meanwhile, Hassim highlighted the importance of an online presence and a LinkedIn profile.

“It’s extremely important, we are living in digital times where a lot of things get done online. Potential employersay do an online search on you to check your online presence and it is important that you are reflected in a positive way via LinkedIn or any other social media platforms. LinkedIn is also the biggest business networking site,” says Hassim.
