The Johannesburg Social Housing Company (JOSHCO) is embarking on a transition from a paper-based application process to an advanced leasing app. The transformation aims to improve efficiency and security, marking a step forward in combating fraud and corruption while streamlining the application process for housing applicants.

Bongani Radebe, JOSHCO’s acting CEO, spoke to Radio Islam International. “We ensure that we streamline our processes so that we do not have old, manual, antiquated systems that are just making life difficult for our tenants,” he said.

The manual system that was in place, which was largely paper based, posed challenges for both applicants and consultants. JOSHCO aims to eliminate inefficiencies associated with paperwork, providing a seamless and user-friendly experience.

The new digital system, facilitated through a mobile application, enables users to fill out applications, register profiles and interact with the system in a more straightforward way. The app also conveniently allows applicants to track the status of their applications, Radebe explained.

Addressing concerns about scams and phishing activities, Radebe underscored the implementation of advanced security systems to protect applicants from fraudulent practices. “This is to ensure a zero-tolerance corruption stance that we always strive for,” Radebe said.

The community’s response to the digital transition has been positive, with a notable uptake of the new system. Radebe explained that the Joscho app is user-friendly and available on Google Play for Android users, on the Apple App Store and on the Huawei App Gallery.
