[LISTEN] Huawei Announces ‘One More Thing’ at Mate 20 Pro Launch in SA

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 24-10-2018

Chinese smartphone maker Huawei has revealed that it’s planning to give away a million of its ‘Y Series’ smartphones to unemployed youth at a reduced cost over a three year period.

The company made the announcement during the launch of its new flagship Mate 20 Pro at the Kyalami Conference Centre in Midrand on Tuesday.

The new Mate 20 Pro is powered by the Kirin 980 system and boasts a 40MP main camera, a 20MP ultra wide-angle camera, and an 8MP telephoto camera.

It also has a 16mm Leica Ultra Wide Angle Lens, which creates a sense of spaciousness and adds a three-dimensional effect to images.

The device is powered by a 4200mAh high-density yet very slim battery. Combined with highly efficient hardware and software, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro can sustain a full day’s worth of work or play without needing to be recharged.

The 40W Huawei SuperCharge gives the device a 70 percent charge in 30 minutes while the Wireless Quick Charge, the industry’s fastest wireless charging solution boosts the devices batter by 12% in just ten minutes.

The Mate 20 Pro also has a Wireless Reverse Charge, which enables the phone to work as a power bank for selected electronic devices supporting wireless charging.

However it was the partnering with Youth Employment Service (YES) that got a lot of attention, an initiative that Huawei says is close to President Cyril Ramaphosa’s heart.

Chief Technology Officer Akhram Mohamed says the initiative with YES has a specific requirement that needs the mobile applications to be loaded including the content for the youth to be trained on.

“We have partnered with them as an official device or handset partner to be able to offer the devices to them at a discounted rate. We will provide them with these phones without actually putting a margin on it because we are doing something good, we are giving back.”

The recommended retail price for the Huawei Mate 20 Pro starts from R18,999, with contract prices staring at R 699.

For those who can’t wait to get their hands on the Mate 20 Pro Huawei is offering an exciting pre-order special where consumers who order the new device before the 31st of October will get a free gift of a Huawei Watch GT Classic, valued at R5499.
