Nurul Islam School says it wants to empower learners and communities with the necessary technology skills as the country embraces the fourth industrial revolution.

The all-girls school in Lenasia unveiled its new media centre on Friday.

The media centre features a number of computer terminals, including a 3D printer sponsored by Penny Appeal SA with Siyafunda Community Technology Centre as a stakeholder in the initiative.

Principal Radiyyah Laher says the project is more than just a media centre.

“What sets our media centre aside from the rest of them as we actually looking at a community initiative. We looking at empowering not only our schools and young girls, but also empowering ladies out there within our communities to come forward when we have courses offering them at a minimal cost or even free to the ladies to come forward and actually learn about technology.”

Laher says they are also hoping to introduce robotics and coding into the curriculum.
