In every community Allah blesses certain individuals with the rare ability to inspire, uplift and transform those around them, quietly, humbly and wholeheartedly. For the Nirvana community in Polokwani, that blessing is our beloved Apa Adila Saloojee. When Apa moved to Polokwane as a young bride, few could have imagined the lasting impact she would have on this town.
Young, vibrant and filled with passion for the Deen, Apa has spent nearly half her life pouring her heart into this community, teaching, guiding and nurturing countless hearts and today we feel the deep and beautiful fruits of her tireless work. Apa Aadilah serves in multiple roles, as a qualified Aalimah, a teacher, a mentor, a role model and most of all, a sincere servant of Allah. From the little ones in her Makhtab classes, to teenagers navigating the complexities of modern life, to reverts taking their first steps into Islam and women seeking a deeper connection to their faith, she has taught them all and she continues to do so with unwavering dedication.
Apa Aadilah’s impact goes far beyond the classroom. She teaches teenage girls with deep empathy, guiding them through the challenges of growing up in today’s world. She mentors reverts with gentleness, helping them feel welcomed and rooted in their new faith and she leads our weekly ladies’ talim.
Apa Aadilah’s tafsir classes for ladies are more than just lessons, they are soul-nourishing experiences. With each verse, she opens a door to understanding, reflection and love for the Qur’an. During Ramadan, her home becomes sanctuary, a beautiful space of learning and connection where women of the community come together to complete the Qur’an, followed by heartfelt talks by Apa after each recitation.
Her students, both young and old, often speak of how her classes are life-changing. You experience the lessons in a way that stays with you long after the class is over. One of her most unique gifts is the way she teaches Islamic history.
As she speaks, she transports us across centuries. You don’t just hear about the lives of the prophets, the Sahaba or the noble women of Islam. You journey with them.
It feels as though we are there, witnessing history unfold, walking beside those legendary figures, witnessing their struggles and triumphs with our own eyes. That kind of teaching doesn’t just educate, it ignites love for our Deen. Apa Aadilah’s presence in the community is quiet but powerful.
It’s not just what she does, it’s how she does it. What truly sets her apart is her character. She carries herself with dignity, grace and humility that only makes her more beloved.
Apa is always smiling, always pleasant, yet never seeking the spotlight and always stays far from futile talk. She is approachable, yet private. Firm in principles, yet gentle in speech.
An example to us all in character and conduct. As a student in Tafsir and on behalf of the community, we want her to know just how valued, loved and appreciated she is. Apa, you are a true gift among us.
A source of strength, guidance and inspiration. And a beacon of light in our community. Your work is seen, your efforts are felt and your sincerity shines through in everything you do.
You may never seek praise or recognition, but your influence is deeply felt in every corner of our town. You have touched so many lives and we are all better for it. May Allah preserve you, protect you, reward you abundantly, increase you in ilm and barakah and allow your influence to reach far beyond what you can ever imagine.
May He accept all that you do for His sake and raise your rank in both this world and the next. May your legacy be one that continues to benefit generations to come. From your student and the Polakwane community, with love and du’as.
