1st Nomination
Apa Zaa from Ummah Heart has truly transformed my life in ways I never imagined possible. Her influence on me as an Aalimah has not only deepened my understanding of Islam, but also ignited a profound love for Allah that continues to grow every day. Before coming across her teachings, I felt disconnected from my faith in many ways, unsure of how to navigate the complexities of daily life while staying true to the teachings of Islam. But Apa Zaa’s wisdom, guidance, and compassionate approach to spirituality have not only clarified my perspective, but also brought me closer to the core values of our faith.
Apa Zaa’s approach to Islam is different from anything I had encountered before. She is not just an Aalimah in the traditional sense, but a living example of what it means to embody the true spirit of Islam. Her teachings are not dry or rigid; instead, they are imbued with love, kindness, and a deep understanding of the human heart. What strikes me the most about her is her ability to break down complex religious concepts into simple, practical advice that resonates with everyone, regardless of their level of knowledge. She teaches that Islam is not just a set of rules, but a way of life—a way to live in harmony with Allah and those around you. Her focus is always on improving one’s character and actions, making spirituality accessible to anyone who is eager to grow closer to Allah.
Through Apa Zaa’s guidance, I have learned how to be a better Mumineen. She has shown me the importance of having a deep, personal connection with Allah—something that transcends rituals and becomes a living, breathing part of everyday life. Her words often remind me that our relationship with Allah is not confined to prayer times or religious gatherings but should extend to every aspect of our lives, from the way we interact with others to how we manage our thoughts and intentions. Through her, I’ve come to understand that being a Mumineen is about striving to align every action with the will of Allah, regardless of how big or small that action may seem.
Apa Zaa has also helped me realize the importance of making du’a (supplication) a constant part of my life. She teaches that du’a is not just a request for something we want but a means of expressing our gratitude, asking for forgiveness, and seeking guidance. Her emphasis on the power of du’a and the belief that Allah listens to each and every one of us has given me a new sense of peace and comfort in my heart. It’s like I’ve discovered a deeper connection with Allah that I never knew existed, and it has made me feel more grounded, centered, and at peace with myself and the world around me.
Apa Zaa’s impact on me has been nothing short of life-changing. She has instilled in me a love for Allah that is more genuine and heartfelt than ever before. Her guidance has not only improved my understanding of Islam but also helped me see the beauty in everyday moments. I am forever grateful for her, and I genuinely feel that my journey as a Mumineen has only just begun thanks to her transformative teachings. I love her more than words can express because she has shown me what it means to love Allah and live a life of purpose, compassion, and faith.
2nd Nomination
It is with immense pleasure and deep conviction that I nominate my teacher of Deen, Apa Zaahira Karrim, for the Muallimah Award. For the past fourteen years, she has been far more than an instructor; she has been a transformative guide who fundamentally redefined my relationship with Allah and Islam, replacing a foundation of apprehension with one of profound love and understanding.
My journey with her began even before she was my formal teacher. I first saw her at a workshop, a remarkably poised young woman seated at the front. When she shared her thoughts on the nature of the qalb, her explanation left an indelible mark. She used the simple, powerful imagery of a leaf trapped under a tree branch: “When the wind blows this way, the leaf blows this way. When the wind blows that way, the leaf blows that way. Such is the fragility of emotions in the heart, ever-changing.” This clarity, this ability to make a profound truth instantly relatable, was breathtaking. I remember thinking, ‘The Deen needs dynamic voices like hers.’ It felt like a divine blessing when she arrived to teach in our town just a month later.
That initial impression has only deepened over fourteen years. People often ask me why I continue attending the same Tuesday class after all this time. My answer is simple: while the core content may be the same, her delivery and research are always updated. More importantly, I am not the same person at every lesson. It is as if I was meant to be there each Tuesday, because she unknowingly speaks directly to some personal struggle I am privately facing. The most amazing feat is that every other student feels the same way; each lesson feels handcrafted for them to absorb. This is not a small class where such personal connection is easy. What began as a group of 20 has now grown to a class of 130 in my town alone, yet she maintains this incredible ability to touch each heart individually.
This personal impact is the cornerstone of her success. Her influence has expanded far beyond our local community. She travels to different towns and has founded the Ummah Heart institution that now educates thousands of women almost every day of the week. Furthermore, the humanitarian efforts she spearheads, both locally and internationally, inspire us to be better Muslimahs, translating knowledge into compassionate action. She has united the hearts of sisters locally and globally, all bound by a shared thirst for knowledge of the Deen.
Her greatest gift is making the profound depths of Islamic scholarship accessible and deeply personal. Before her guidance, my practice was shaped by a fear of consequences.
Apa Zaahira Karrim lovingly illuminated a different path. She introduced me to the overwhelming, merciful, and encompassing love that Allah has for His creation. This was the catalyst for a monumental shift in my faith. I transitioned from being a practicing Muslim, who performed rituals, to becoming a believing Muslim, whose actions are now infused with meaning, intention, and a genuine longing for connection.
In summary, Apa Zaahira Karrim did not just teach me about Islam; she taught me how to know and love Allah. She ignited a light in my heart where there was once only shadows. For fostering this deep, abiding, and intelligent love for Deen in myself and countless others across the country, I can think of no one more deserving of this recognition.
3rd Nomination
Apa Zaa is more than a teacher – she is an inspiration. The way she speaks is always motivational and uplifting, encouraging us not only to learn but also to live by the Sunnah in our daily lives. For example, I started practicing Sunnah acts in the mornings before breakfast only because of her guidance. Without her teaching, I may never have developed this habit.
She explains the teachings of the Qur’an and the life of the Prophet ﷺ in such a clear and easy-to-understand manner that they become practical for us today. I especially appreciate how she draws comparisons between the experiences of the Prophets and our own modern challenges, making the lessons deeply relevant and applicable.
Apa Zaa often shares her spiritual journey experiences in life and through this we learn to draw lessons from it. Through her reflections, we are able to connect to the sacred journeys in a personal way and learn how to strengthen our own spirituality esp her hajj experience.
Her voice and style of teaching are engaging, and I always look forward to hearing her speak. She also teaches us about the noble characteristics of the Ummahātul Mu’minīn (the Mothers of the Believers), encouraging us to embody their qualities in our own lives. Through her lessons, I found the courage to do things I never thought I could—such as reciting a prayer at a funeral.
Apa Zaa’s influence goes beyond the classroom. Whatever she teaches, I share with my family at home, and together we try to implement these lessons. She constantly reminds us to be kind, to avoid unnecessary conflict, especially within family dynamics like with in-laws, and to conduct ourselves with dignity and patience. Her advice on how to treat our spouses with respect and love has been invaluable.
Not only does she deliver her regular classes with dedication, but she also offers extra lessons, showing how much she truly cares for her students. She is deeply invested in our growth, both spiritually and personally, and her impact reaches far beyond her immediate students.
For her wisdom, compassion, and unwavering dedication, I truly believe Apa Zaa deserves to be honoured as Ālima of the Year.
4th Nomination
I had been making so much dua to gain some Islamic knowledge, growing up knowing the basics, and now married in a small town, I could not hold a conversation with people or tell my kids stories related to my deen.
She was an answer from ALLAH, when the world locked down, she was in everyone’s home.
I cannot even begin to explain HOW much I have learnt from her madressa(all the Appas).
I am confident in my deen, I am stronger.
I have a loving approach with teaching my kids and now that I am teaching at a school, I also am imparting the knowledge I have learnt.
Islam is not strict, ALLAH is loving and merciful.
We have a beautiful history, Full of examples for us.
I have learnt all this and much more.

I make du‘āʾ that Allah ﷻ blesses Apa Zaahira with continued strength, preserves her from every harm, accepts her every effort, and raises her in rank both in this duniyah and the Hereafter.
آمــــــــــين يا رب العالمين

In every generation, Allah chooses certain souls whose lives become lanterns — illuminating the path of faith, compassion and divine love for those around them. Among these radiant souls stands Ustadha Zaahira Karrim of Ummah Heart Madressa, whose life’s work has been nothing short of a living invitation to return — to the Creator of hearts, to the sanctuary of self, and to the boundless mercy that unites us as one Ummah.
With tireless devotion and unwavering sincerity, Ustadha Zaahira has dedicated herself to the sacred task of turning hearts towards Allah. Her mission transcends borders and backgrounds; it is a call that echoes in the hearts of women across the globe — a call to rediscover the beauty of loving our Creator and, through that love, learning to love ourselves once more. For as she often reminds her students, “He who does not know himself, cannot truly know his Creator.”
Through Ummah Heart Madressa, she has created not merely an institute of learning, but a sanctuary of transformation. Her teachings gently weave together the timeless truths of Prophetic wisdom with the insights of modern psychology, creating a tapestry of understanding that speaks to both the heart and the mind. The result is a rare and beautiful harmony — a space where spirituality meets self-awareness, and where knowledge becomes a healing force.
Her students, now spread across continents, often speak of how her words have rekindled their faith and reignited their purpose. Each lesson is more than a transmission of information — it is a transmission of light. She does not simply teach about Allah; she teaches through Allah’s mercy, embodying the compassion and grace she so passionately calls others to live by.
What distinguishes Ustadha Zaahira is not only her depth of knowledge, but her ability to translate that knowledge into lived experience — to help her students not just learn about the Divine, but to feel the Divine within the depths of their being. Her voice carries the gentle strength of a nurturer, a teacher and a guide who reminds us that faith is not distant or abstract, but intimate and alive within every breath we take.
The essence of her mission is beautifully captured in Ummah Heart’s motto: “Together with Love, as One Ummah.” These words are not mere sentiment — they are the living pulse of her work. Under her guidance, Ummah Heart has become a movement of unity and love, inviting hearts to soften, minds to awaken, and souls to return to the remembrance of the One who fashioned them.
In recognising Ustadha Zaahira Karrim for Aalimah of the Year, we are not only honouring an individual, but celebrating a legacy of love in action — a legacy that continues to inspire, heal, and awaken countless hearts. Her journey stands as a testament to what is possible when knowledge is carried with humility, when service is rendered with sincerity, and when the heart that teaches does so from a place deeply rooted in Divine love.
Ustadha Zaahira’s life reminds us that the most powerful form of dawah is not through words alone, but through the radiance of a heart surrendered to its Creator. May her work continue to be a source of light for the Ummah, and may her legacy inspire generations of seekers to come.
7th Nomination
I joined Ummah Heart during the Covid period, at a time when I had three little children under the age of four. Leaving my home was nearly impossible with three small nuggets running around, yet Apa made it possible for any stay-at-home mum, working woman, or anyone with a sincere desire to connect to Allah to do so from the comfort of their own home.
Apa’s method of teaching is deeply unique. She never teaches based only on what we see or hear — she begins by helping us understand the foundation of every concept and then builds upon that knowledge. Through her guidance, Islam comes alive with its true beauty and meaning. She makes our deen feel so magical — SubhaanAllah — because it truly is a magical religion. This sense of wonder and connection flows through to our children too. As Apa would say, they “legit” find Islam so cool! They grow up seeing its beauty and don’t need to look elsewhere for inspiration or “magic.”
Apa also has a remarkable way of intertwining psychology and self-reflection within every lesson. By Allah’s permission, it is impossible for a student to attend her classes and not experience some level of inner transformation. I began my journey with a heart that felt rusty and heavy, but as the years have gone by, learning from Apa’s wisdom and treasures, I can truly feel my heart has softened and changed.
For this and so much more, I wholeheartedly nominate Apa Zaahira Karrim.
May Allah reward her abundantly for her tireless efforts, sincerity, and love. I may not be a live student, but I pray that Allah reunites us in Jannatul Firdaus — with our beloved Nabi ﷺ, the ummahaatul mu’mineen, our families and progenies till qiyaamah and all whom we love for His sake.
