Parts Of Lenasia Ext 8 Receive Electricity After Spending Six Days In The Dark

by Shoneez Bulbulia

2 minute read| 5 July 2023 | 15:00 CAT

City Power has temporarily restored electricity to several homes in Garrick Circle extension 8, on Tuesday night, after electricity was cut for 6 days.

Residents affected complained that City Power continuously came to the electrical sub station without fixing the problem and then closed the fault case, that was logged.
“City Power came to the box a few times during the week. On Monday they came twice and did nothing. They are here today to fix the fault. They only came back after we contacted our ward committee members to assist because they closed the log without fixing the problem”, said irate resident Fatima Panchbhai.
Ward committe members Riaz Ebrahim and Jakes Karolia have been assisting residents of that area and applying pressure on City Power officials to assist with the crises.
“We have been trying to escalate the matter and spoke directly to managers at City Power. We’ve had no service delivery and have had to contact higher authorities,” said Karolia.
He said the connection was a temporary one, which will then have to be repaired at the main electrical box.
Panchbhai said the circle didn’t have electricity since the eve of Eid ul Adha
” We were in contact with City Power since the power went last Wednesday night. We logged our calls and did the rest. They came since Sunday and only repaired one issue. Today is Tuesday but they still haven’t repaired our electricity.”
Fatima did confirm that the electricity was temporarily restored at 7pm on Tuesday night.
