Police warns that the new Tik Tok trend could land pupils in jail

By Mumtaz Saley-Moosa

It seems that people would do just about anything to get internet fame these days, as students have embarked on dangerous ways to go viral. The latest viral TikTok #SchoolsChallenge has had students vandalising property, throwing rocks at cars, climbing on teachers’ cars and school roofs. This has brought about an increase in these challenges in KZN this week.

The trend sparked cross-gender dressing, resulting in boys wearing skirts to school, as some children dressed in their parent’s clothes,

In January, the TikTok #SchoolsChallenge started as a #SchoolbagChallenge, which saw learners using various household items and supermarket trolleys to carry their schoolbooks.

Police have warned that vandalising school buildings, cars, and other acts resulting in criminal acts may earn learners jail time.

Parents, please speak to your children about these challenges and set some rules to participate in the trend.
