New political party Rise Mzansi hosted almost 800 delegates from all nine provinces at its People’s Convention at the weekend, aiming to develop its policies.

Over the three days of the policy convention, the delegates engaged in robust discussions about how SA’s new kid on the political block could make the country a better place for all.

According to Rise Mzasni, about 300 representatives from civil society organisations, NGOs and businesses, and another 500 supporters of the party — 796 delegates.

Rise Mzansi’s policy head, Mandla Isaacs, said, “This weekend is really about capturing the aspirations of the South Africa [that delegates] believe they deserve. We are really trying to imagine and envision a new society. For us, it starts with imagination and vision.”

He said that in the coming weeks, Rise Mzansi would take everything heard over the weekend to put out a People’s Manifesto, which will articulate what the party wants to achieve in the coming years.

Rise Mzansi’s civic alliance’s coordinator, Irfaan Mangera, said their alliance rests with the people of South Africa and civic society.

Mangera said their involvement in society is crucial to achieving better governance.

“For us, we remain resolute and clear: our pact is not about flying to any moon, nor will we compromise on political alliances before building an alliance with the societies we come from, first. Our pact is with our people.”
