The nation could face more dark hours as the Eskom crisis deepens

South Africans have reached their limits after the electricity crisis at power utility Eskom deepened, and the nation faced Stage 6 load shedding over the past 24 hours. There is a slight reprieve from midnight tonight when it will be reduced to Stage 5, but that is scant relief after weeks of problems.

Discussing with Radio Islam International, energy expert Ted Blom said that the situation is very dire, and the management seems inexperienced and incapable of analysing correct information to which appropriate action should follow.

Eskom is burning through billions of rands of fuel, which will only deepen the financial crisis in the entity.

According to Ted, the load shedding cost per kWh is R500.

“Sometimes Eskom is stupid in how they apply their minds,” he says.

Ted stated that permanently intimating load shedding level two will not help refurbish.

He added that de Ruyter has failed on every account of his promises.

The President, Cyril Ramaphosa, has cut short his overseas visit to return to the country and address the electricity crisis. Ted said there is not much they can do regarding the government’s actions.

Listen below to the interview with Mufti Yusuf Moosagie and energy expert Ted Blom on Radio Islam’s podcast.
