Johannesburg residents are struggling as flooded roads left traffic chaos. Areas which were seriously affected include Lenasia, Soweto and Florida. Several people were rescued from their flooded houses, and the situation may worsen over the weekend as the South African Weather Service warned of further rain the weekend.

Speaking to Radio Islam International, Johannesburg Emergency Service, Xolile Khumalo said the teams have been rescuing people since the early hours of Friday morning.

In Kliptown, a house was merged into the water in which small boats were used to accommodate the rescue. No injuries were reported.

Khumalo said there are no confirmed records of missing people at this stage.

Meanwhile, Khumalo pleads to the community to take every precaution when crossing bridges and avoid areas that are usually flooded.
