True Love – Part 12

The love that Nabi ﷺ had for Khadijah RA is truly remarkable.

It is narrated from the Sahabah RA that the Prophet ﷺ would be filled with very deep emotion when he used to just be reminded of her.

A’isha RA reported that Hala binti Khuwailid (sister of Khadija RA) sought permission from Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) to see him and he was reminded of Khadijah RA’s (manner of) asking leave to enter and (was overwhelmed) with emotions thereby and said: O Allah, it is Hala, daughter of Khuwailid, and I felt jealous and said: Why do you remember one of those old women of the Quraish with gums red and who is long dead-while Allah has given you a better one in her stead? [Muslim 2437]

When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to think of Khadijah RA, he used to be overcome with deep emotion, however, this never stopped him from often praising her and recounting and recollecting her many outstanding favours.

Aisha RA reports that Rasulullah ﷺ said to her:

She accepted me (my message) when people rejected me, believed me when people belied me, supported me with her wealth when people deprived me and Allah granted me her children when he kept me away from the children of other women. [Musnad Ahmad]

The love that Nabi ﷺ had for Khadijah RA was a divine love which Allah had placed in his heart for her. The Prophet ﷺ himself explained this to Aisha RA.

‘A’isha RA reported: Never did I feel jealous of the wives of Allah’s Apostle ﷺ but in the case of Khadija, although I did not, (have the privilege to) see her. She further added that whenever Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) slaughtered a sheep, he said: Send it to the companions of Khadija. I annoyed him one day and said: (It is) Khadija only who always prevails upon your mind. Thereupon Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said: Her love had been nurtured in my heart by Allah Himself.

O, her room so radiant with mercy, illuminated by divine light.

Jibreel AS would come with greetings, from his Lord repeatedly.

Giving glad tidings of a palace of jewels, in the highest stations of Paradise.

Where to find a room like yours, O Khadijah, brimming with purity and honour.

If it weren’t for the cave of Hira your house would have been, the first to receive guidance.

May Allah grant us the true love for this most honourable wife of Nabi ﷺ
