What to do with your kids during the holidays – Gauteng

By Mumtaz Saley-Moosa

09:12:2020

It’s a month-long of holidays, while many of us will be home we have to also plan activities to keep our kids happy and occupied during the holidays.

We look at some ideas where to take them and how to keep them busy at home as well.

Day trips seem to be popular.

Please do not prices may have been updated.

Places you may want to visit:

Acrobranch

Fun family outing for all. Feel like a kid again as you navigate your way from treetop to treetop.
There are a few options available citywide.

Honeydew mazes

Every year when I do on places to visit this suggestion always come out.

A family ticket costs about R400 for two adults and two children.

Each adventure lasts about 60 min.

Joburg Zoo and Pretoria Zoo

Now I know there has been a lot of posts talking about the degrading of the places, the Joburg Zoo is not as bad as people make it out.  Remember to take your picnic basket, sun hat and enjoy some outdoor time.  The kids enjoy the open and if you aren’t in the mood for walking just plan your route.

Both of the Zoos do have fun activities during the holiday season and you can find more information on Instagram pages.

Cost per family  of four – R350

Thulani Fishing and leisure resort

This hidden jam is definitely worth the visit.

Based In Pretoria you can plan a fun day out.

You can picnic or braai, they also have fishing and water slides.

Cost for a family of four – R300.

Please note bookings are needed.

Not breaking the budget free things to do.

The Wilds in Houghton, this reclaimed area is an amazing hiking place with breathtaking views, there are loads to see.  Take your picnic basket and book and settle in as you take in the view of the Gauteng city.

Parking here is limited so plan your mornings early or late afternoon.

They also have a book exchange and please do consider leaving a book behind in the box for others to enjoy.

Zoo Lake

This is the gem that we all love. The zoo lake is perfect for kids to bike ride, feed ducks and just enjoy time outdoors.

Please do remember that if we all do not litter our public spaces will be kept clean.

Modderfontein Nature Reserve

Enjoy the outdoors in a hidden gem.

The cost is minimal at R90 for a family of four.
