Asking Allah for a Qalb Saleem – Part 6

Renewal of the Heart and Soul

Phase 5 – Transformation: Becoming Who Allah Loves

Asking Allah for a Qalb Saleem

My dear brothers and sisters, we have spent this month on a journey of heart renewal. We have spoken about sincerity, repentance, forgiveness, patience, gratitude, trust, and character. We have stood in the last ten nights, seeking Laylatul Qadr. We have made du’a with hope and longing.

But today, we must ask the fundamental question: What is the goal of all of this? What are we really asking for when we seek renewal?

The answer is found in the Quran, in the du’a of Prophet Ibrahim AS. He asked for something that every believer should make their ultimate aspiration. He asked for a qalb saleem — a sound heart.

Today, we speak about Asking Allah for a Qalb Saleem.

What Is a Qalb Saleem?

The term appears in Surah Ash-Shu’ara, when Ibrahim AS prayed:

“وَلَا تُخْزِنِي يَوْمَ يُبْعَثُونَ * يَوْمَ لَا يَنفَعُ مَالٌ وَلَا بَنُونَ * إِلَّا مَنْ أَتَى اللَّهَ بِقَلْبٍ سَلِيمٍ”

“And do not disgrace me on the Day they are resurrected—the Day when wealth and children will not benefit, except one who comes to Allah with a sound heart.” (Surah Ash-Shu’ara, 26: 87-89)

A qalb saleem is a heart that is sound, healthy, and free from spiritual diseases. It is a heart purified from shirk, doubt, hypocrisy, pride, envy, and attachment to the dunya. It is a heart that knows its Lord, loves Him, trusts Him, and turns to Him.

On the Day of Judgment, nothing will matter except this heart. Not your wealth. Not your children. Not your status. Only the soundness of your heart.

The Heart That Survives the Day

Imagine that Day. The sun brought close. Humanity standing for so long. Every person consumed with their own account. On that Day, the only thing that will benefit you is the state of your heart.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“لَا يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ مَنْ كَانَ فِي قَلْبِهِ مِثْقَالُ ذَرَّةٍ مِنْ كِبْرٍ”

“No one will enter Paradise who has an atom’s weight of arrogance in his heart.” (Muslim)

Arrogance is a disease of the heart. It prevents entry into Jannah. Similarly, envy consumes good deeds. Hatred blocks mercy. Love of dunya chains the soul. A sound heart is free of all these.

What a Sound Heart Looks Like

A qalb saleem is:

  • Free from shirk. It worships Allah alone, seeking no partner.
  • Free from doubt. It is certain in faith, not tossed by every wind.
  • Free from hypocrisy. It is the same inside and out.
  • Free from pride. It knows its place before Allah.
  • Free from envy. It rejoices in the blessings of others.
  • Free from excessive attachment to dunya. It uses the world but does not love it.
  • Filled with love of Allah. He is its first and greatest love.
  • Filled with trust in Allah. It relies on Him alone.
  • Filled with fear and hope. Fear of His punishment, hope in His mercy.

This is the heart that will survive the Day of Judgment. This is the heart that will enter Jannah. This is the heart we have been seeking to build all Ramadhan.

Asking for It

This heart is not built by accident. It is built by effort, by struggle, by constant turning to Allah. And it is granted by His mercy. We must ask for it.

The Prophet ﷺ taught us to ask:

“اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ قَلْبًا سَلِيمًا”

“O Allah, I ask You for a sound heart.”

Make this du’a constantly. In your sujood, in the depths of the night, in the last third before dawn. Ask the Turner of hearts to give you a heart that is sound.

The Connection to Laylatul Qadr

Last night was the 27th — a possible night for Laylatul Qadr. If you stood in prayer, if you made du’a, if you sought forgiveness, then you were asking for this very thing.

But even if last night passed, the door is still open. The remaining nights remain. Keep asking. Keep seeking. Keep striving for that heart.

This is the goal. This is what matters. This is what we ask for.

May Allah grant us all a qalb saleem and make us among those who come to Him with sound hearts. Ameen.
