Ingredients:
4 oranges
15 China fruit
3 small packets dried papaya strips (choria)
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
1 cup orange juice (box juice)
Directions:
Slice oranges into rounds, then cut into quarters.
Boil sugar, water, orange juice, China fruit and papaya for 10-15min or until the syrup is slightly sticky to the touch. The syrup should be very thin and runny still.
Allow to cool.
Now add oranges.
Store overnight. Continue tossing to marinate the oranges.
The next morning transfer to a broad based, flat bowl that is elevated on the ends.
Allow to chill until ready to serve. Serve alongside individual bowls for serving.
Tips and tricks:
Ideally peel the oranges and remove the white pith as well. Its easier to eat this way and still looks pretty. It also avoids the bitterness of the pith and peel.
If using dried papaya strips, then use white and not the red ones.
Always store overnight to allow the oranges to soak up the syrup.
For an aesthetic, carefully decant using a large spoon so that you arrange the oranges and China fruit/papaya neatly.
Enjoy 🥰
