Five common challenges in a business

By Naseerah Nanabhai

Overcoming challenges is an integral part of running any business; every business has a unique set of challenges. Most successful entrepreneurs had gone through their ups and downs before they got to where they are today. There is no way to eliminate challenges, but learning about the different types of challenges and how to respond to them is possible. Here is a list of five common workplace challenges:

Challenges in communication
A clear and comprehensive communication procedure is vital for the clarity and effectiveness of the organization. A lack of employee interaction and collaboration would present a challenge to the company’s success.

Low employee engagement motivation
It is normal to feel demotivated from time to time and want support and encouragement. Office workers’ need for motivation is usually more acute and recurring. Lack of engagement and motivation is one of the biggest challenges in organizations. It not only brings down employee satisfaction and productivity but also reduces organizational progress.

Rigid Hierarchies and hesitance to learn.
Some employees may be unwilling to welcome changes, new activities, or perspectives. These people believe that their way is the only way to do things. In some companies, the hierarchy is not clearly defined, or multiple departments stake claims to the same resources. This can cause many challenges and impact the smooth functioning of the organization.

Lack of conflict resolution
Conflict is inevitable; with any group of people, there will always be some differences or disagreements. There could be disagreements about processes, targets, working styles, or individual behaviours; if not resolved effectively, they could challenge the company’s success.

Lack of skill development and professional growth
Employees may aspire toward obtaining more skills and knowledge as they move up the ladder. If they don’t attain this, it can produce a challenging situation at work. Organizations that don’t focus on employee growth and skill development regularly face such challenges at work.
