Home remedies for phlegm

The mixture prepared from basil leaves, ginger and black pepper powder, by taking one teaspoon each and adding it to one and a half cup of water. Boil it till the quantity is reduced to half. Add a little sugar or honey and take this preparation three times a day, about 20-25ml each time.  For the next remedy, you will have to extract ginger juice. Take one teaspoon of ginger juice and add one teaspoon of honey to it. Have this three times a day.

Mix two tablespoons of lemon juice, one tablespoon of honey and add a pinch of cayenne pepper to it. If you do not have cayenne pepper, you can also make use of grated onion instead. Have this mixture, minimum three times a day.  Drinking a hot cup of well brewed tea also helps in fighting phlegm in chest. You can make thyme tea or ginger tea. Both of them are of immense help.

Inhale steam from a tub of boiling water or hot shower to loosen mucus in the throat and sinus congestion. Drink at least eight glasses of water daily to loosen phlegm and thin mucus – it is also good for your overall health!  Blow your nose frequently to prevent mucus from draining into your throat. Gargle regularly with warm water and salt Add a few drops of eucalyptus oil to a vaporizer to loosen phlegm and relieve congestion.

Avoid eating foods such as dairy products, meat or fried foods that increase mucus production. Drink hot liquids such as herbal tea or chicken broth to moisten the airways and break up the mucus. Add a teaspoon of turmeric to half a glass of milk – turmeric contains antiseptic properties that fights infection
