The N2 north near Chesterville, Durban, was closed in the early hours of Tuesday morning following protest action on Monday night.

Durban Metro Police say the road will remain closed until further notice as clean-up and recovery operations occur after Monday night’s violent protests.

According to Boysie Zungu, Metro Police Spokesperson, the reason for the protest is unclear. He added that protestors burnt a truck with vehicles.

He further appealed to motorists to avoid the area and use alternative routes.

Meanwhile, motorists travelling on the N11 this morning, in the vicinity of the Dannhauser and Normandien turn-off, are urged to be cautious after a truck overturned. It is unclear what led to the accident, but conditions in the area are misty. Reports of injuries were not immediately available.
