Radio Islam Programming – 27 March 2017
Moulana Obeidullah Bhoja hosts the programme, Ulema Legacy, on Thursday evenings between 8 and 10pm. The programme aims to highlight and outline the contributions by various Islamic personalities which include scholars, preachers and game-changers.
Every week, an individual (In most cases, one who has passed on) is profiled. Family members and close associates of the individual being profiled are interviewed and given the opportunity to give insight into the lives of these pioneers. The lines are also open for listeners to call in and share their memories. In previous editions of the programme, scholars such as Qari Ismail Ishaaq Rahimahullah (a giant in the field of Qiraat) and Moulana Yunus Patel Rahimahullah (a beacon of spirituality and reformation) were profiled.
In the latest programme, Moulana Bhoja focused on the life and times of Junaid Jamshed Rahimahullah, a former pop-singer turned Islamic preacher and Nasheed artist. Jamshed tragically passed away in a plane crash last year. His son, Taimur, was brought on as a guest. He mentioned fascinating facts and events regarding his father’s life. He touched on his father’s relationship with Moulanan Tariq Jameel and his father’s travels. He also explained that despite the fame and status, his father never failed to play the role of a father at home.
“This is why Allah gave him such influence, so many people loved him, because he sacrificed something that was dear to him for something that Allah loved”
“My father used to say, When Allah gives you something, he puts shares in it for everyone, it’s not just for you. That is why you have to keep on giving in the path of Allah.”
The Marhoom’s aunt, Fawzia, was also brought on the programme as a guest. She outlined his character during his days as a pop star. Among other things, she mentioned that kindness and generousity always played a part in his life, even in his young days.
“Even as a musician, he was always a humble person…as a youngster he stayed away from family politics…”
