The Last Ten Nights as a Second Chance – Part 2

Renewal of the Heart and Soul

Phase 5 – Transformation: Becoming Who Allah Loves

The Last Ten Nights as a Second Chance

My dear brothers and sisters, as we stand in the middle of the last ten nights, I know that some hearts among you are heavy. Not from worship, but from regret. You look back at the twenty-five days of Ramadhan and you feel you wasted them. You missed prayers. You were distracted. You didn’t read Quran as much as you hoped. Your heart was not as present as it should have been.

And now, as the final stretch begins, a whisper comes: It’s too late. You’ve already lost Ramadhan. What’s the point of trying now?

That whisper is from Shaytan. And today, I am here to tell you with absolute certainty: He is lying.

Today, we speak about The Last Ten Nights as a Second Chance.

The Door Is Still Open

Ramadhan is not over. The most valuable part of Ramadhan is still here. The last ten nights contain Laylatul Qadr — a night better than a thousand months. One night of sincere worship can outweigh a lifetime of neglect. One night can erase decades of sin. One night can change your entire eternity.

Do you understand what this means? It means that even if you did nothing in the first twenty-five days, these remaining nights can still save you. The door is not closing; it is opening wider. The mercy is not ending; it is peaking.

Allah ﷻ says:

“قُلْ يَا عِبَادِيَ الَّذِينَ أَسْرَفُوا عَلَىٰ أَنفُسِهِمْ لَا تَقْنَطُوا مِن رَّحْمَةِ اللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ جَمِيعًا”

“Say, O My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins.” (Surah Az-Zumar, 39: 53)

All sins. Every sin. The ones from the first twenty days. The ones from the last twenty years. All of them can be forgiven in these nights.

The Prophet ﷺ`s Example

Look at the Prophet ﷺ. Did he slacken in the last ten nights? No. He increased his worship. He did more, not less. He treated these nights as the climax, not the conclusion.

Aisha RA said:

“كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَجْتَهِدُ فِي الْعَشْرِ الْأَوَاخِرِ مَا لَا يَجْتَهِدُ فِي غَيْرِهِ”

“The Messenger of Allah would strive in the last ten days more than he would at any other time.” (Muslim)

If the Prophet — who was already perfect in worship — increased his efforts, how much more should we? Especially those of us who feel we have fallen short?

The Latecomer’s Advantage

There is a beautiful secret here: Those who feel they have wasted time often worship with more desperation. The one who knows they are behind runs faster. The one who knows they have sinned cries harder. The one who knows they need mercy begs more sincerely.

Your regret is not a disadvantage. It is fuel. It is the very thing that can make your du’as more heartfelt, your tears more genuine, your worship more intense.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“النَّدَمُ تَوْبَةٌ”

“Regret is repentance.” (Ibn Majah)

Your regret over the past is already repentance. Now channel that regret into action. Let it drive you to make these nights the best nights of your life.

The Story of the Late Repenter

Think of the man who killed ninety-nine people. He set out to seek forgiveness, but died on the way. Allah accepted his repentance because his heart was sincere in the end. (Bukhari & Muslim)

If that man could be forgiven for ninety-nine murders simply because he turned to Allah before death, can you not be forgiven for wasted days if you turn to Him now?

The door is open. The mercy is flowing. Do not let shame keep you from entering.

What If This Is Your Last Ramadhan?

None of us knows if we will see another Ramadhan. These remaining few nights could be your final opportunity to earn Laylatul Qadr. Your final chance to have your sins forgiven. Your final chance to free yourself from the Fire.

If you knew this was your last Ramadhan, would you waste another moment on regret? Would you spend these nights looking back or looking up?

The Companions RA understood this. They did not dwell on what they had missed. They seized what remained.

How to Seize Your Second Chance?

  1. Repent sincerely right now. Do not wait. Raise your hands and say: O Allah, I wasted the first part of Ramadhan. I have no excuse. But Your mercy is greater than my failure. Forgive me and help me make the most of what remains.
  2. Make a plan for these nights. Decide now: I will pray Isha and Fajr in congregation. I will stand in night prayer as long as I can. I will make du’a with presence. I will seek Laylatul Qadr with everything I have.
  3. Let go of the past. What is done is done. You cannot change it. But you can change what comes next. Do not let Shaytan trap you in guilt. Use it as motivation, not paralysis.
  4. Focus on quality, not quantity. You may not be able to pray all night. But you can pray two rak’ah with complete presence. You may not be able to read the entire Quran. But you can read one page with reflection. Allah looks at your heart, not your endurance.

The Promise

Allah does not turn away a sincere heart. He does not close the door on those who knock. He is al-Tawwāb — the One who constantly accepts repentance. He is al-Ghafūr — the One who covers sins completely. He is al-Raḥīm — the Most Merciful.

“إِنَّ رَحْمَتَ اللَّهِ قَرِيبٌ مِّنَ الْمُحْسِنِينَ”

“Indeed, the mercy of Allah is near to the doers of good.” (Surah Al-A’raf, 7: 56)

Be among the doers of good in these nights. His mercy is near. His forgiveness is waiting. His love is ready for you.

May Allah accept us all and grant us the best of these last ten nights. Ameen.
