The Soul at Peace – Part 9

Renewal of the Heart and Soul

Phase 1 – Entering Ramadhan – Understanding the Heart and Soul

Know Your Heart, Awaken Your Soul

The Soul at Peace

Nafs al-Mutma’innah

After struggle comes serenity.

  1. Nafs al-Mutma’innah (The Soul at Peace)

Mentioned beautifully in Surah Al-Fajr:

يَـٰٓأَيَّتُهَا ٱلنَّفْسُ ٱلْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ ٱرْجِعِىٓ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً مَّرْضِيَّةً

“O tranquil soul, return to your Lord, pleased and pleasing…” — Qur’an 89: 27–28

This is the highest state of the soul.

Characteristics:

  • Content with Allah’s decree
  • Strong in obedience
  • Calm in hardship
  • Detached from excessive dunya
  • Sincere in worship

This soul:

  • Trusts Allah in difficulty
  • Is patient in trials
  • Is grateful in ease
  • Finds sweetness in Salah
  • It does not mean the person is sinless — but they are deeply connected to Allah.

How Does One Reach This State?

Through:

  • Consistent repentance
  • Dhikr
  • Salah with presence
  • Qur’an reflection
  • Fighting desires
  • Keeping righteous company

Allah says:

“Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.” — Qur’an 13: 28

Peace does not come from wealth or status. It comes from surrender.

Final Reflection

The journey of the believer is:

Ammārah → Lawwāmah → Mutma’innah

We may fluctuate daily.

But the direction matters.

Ask:

What kind of soul am I feeding?

If Allah called my soul today, which state would it be in?
