First Muslim – Part 6

At the advent of nubuwwah, the degree of unshakable assistance lent by Khadijah RA to Rasulullah ﷺ has been recorded in much detail and depth by the Muhaddithin, the ‘ulamaʼ of sirah (biography of Rasulullah ﷺ) and the Muslim historians. The scholars are fully aware of those details. In the hardships of the beginning stages of Islam, the steadfastness and consolation of Khadijah RA has been described by the ‘ulamaʼ of this subject in many different ways.

The author of Zad al Ma’ad has written:
هى التى وازرته على النبوة و جاهدت معه و واسته بنفسها و مالها …
Khadijah RA helped Rasulullah ﷺ through the difficulties of nubuwwah, became a firm support for him and stood together with him through his sufferings. She supported him with her life and wealth and displayed her well-wishing for Rasulullah ﷺ at every level. It was her perfect display of preference to Rasulullah ﷺ over herself which served as an aid and support in the spreading and dissemination of Islam in the most cumbersome of times. [Zad al Ma’ad by Ibn Qayyim vol. 1 pg. 26 – The chapter regarding the wives of Rasulullah ﷺ]

Yesterday we concluded with the point that after the Messenger of Allah had received the first Wahi, it was his wife Khadijah RA who had comforted him, reassuring him that Allah will not destroy him.

Thereafter, Sayyidah Khadijah RA took Rasulullah ﷺ to visit her cousin, Waraqah ibn Nawfal, who was well versed with the divine scripture. After listening to the experience of Rasulullah ﷺ, he comforted him by informing him that Jibreel AS was the same angel who would bring revelation to Nabi Musa AS as well. [Al Bukhari]

The First to Accept Islam
Ibn al Athir says:
خديحة اول خلق الله اسلم باجماع المسلمين لم يتقدمها رجل و لا امرأة
Khadijah RA was the first of Allah’s creation to accept Islam, according to the consensus of the Muslims. Neither did a man nor a woman precede her. [Usd al Ghabah]

Ibn Hisham says:
Khadijah bint Khuwaylid had conviction in him, believed that which came to him from his Rabb and supported him. She was the first to believe in Allah and His Rasul ﷺ. Allah lightened the difficulties of Rasulullah ﷺ by means of her belief in him. He would not hear anything distasteful (such as; people rejecting him, belying him etc.) which would sadden him except that Allah would remove that sadness from him by means of Khadijah ﷺ, when he would return to her. She would strengthen him, lighten (his matters), believe in him, and help him to overcome the inconvenience that people caused to him. May Allah have mercy upon her [Al Sirah al Nabawiyyah. A similar statement is attributed to Ibn ‘Abbas radiya Llahu ‘anhu in al Isti’ab.]
