In the Aakhirah – Part 18

Ebrahim`s عليه السلام Echo: Where Footsteps Become Footprints

In the Aakhirah

Prophet Ibrahim (AS), one of the greatest and most beloved messengers of Allah ﷻ, is not only honoured in this world but also guaranteed a high and eternal status in the Aakhirah. As the Khalīlullāh (the intimate friend of Allah), his legacy, righteousness, and unwavering submission have earned him a place among the elite in the Hereafter.

A Life Lived for the Afterlife

Ibrahim (AS) lived a life entirely devoted to Allah ﷻ. He rejected idolatry, challenged tyrants, and even endured exile, fire, and personal sacrifice — all for the sake of pleasing his Lord. His choices were not for worldly gain but driven by a deep hope in the reward of the Hereafter.

“And of Abraham who fulfilled [his obligations] …” An-Najm (53: 37)

Because of this, Allah honoured him not only in his time but promised him an everlasting reward.

A High Status in the Hereafter

The Holy Qur’an clearly affirms that Ibrahim (AS) will be among the righteous in the Hereafter:

وَلَقَدْ ٱصْطَفَيْنَـٰهُ فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ وَإِنَّهُۥ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ لَمِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ

“And We chose him in this world, and indeed, in the Hereafter, he will be among the righteous.” Al-Baqarah (2: 130)

This verse signifies his dual honour: one in this world through Prophethood, and one in the next through proximity to Allah ﷻ and everlasting joy.

Khalīlullāh: The Friend of Allah ﷻ

Ibrahim (AS) was given the exceptional title of Khalīlullāh, the Friend of Allah:

وَٱتَّخَذَ ٱللَّهُ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ خَلِيلًۭا

“And Allah took Ibrahim as an intimate friend.” An-Nisā’ (4: 125)

Friendship with Allah ﷻ implies closeness, trust, and a relationship beyond comparison. In the Hereafter, this closeness translates into a lofty status among the prophets and the righteous in Jannah.

His Mention in the Du‘ā of Believers

Even believers today ask Allah ﷻ to bless Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) as He blessed Ibrahim (AS) in their daily prayers:

ٱللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍۢ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍۢ كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَىٰٓ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ

“O Allah, send peace and blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You sent peace and blessings upon Ibrahim…”

This ongoing mention in prayer reflects Ibrahim AS’s eternal relevance and high position even in the Ummah of later Prophets AS.

A Witness Over His Nation

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ mentioned in authentic hadith that on the Day of Judgement, every Prophet AS will come with his nation, and some Prophets AS will come alone. Ibrahim (AS), however, will come with a large following, showing his influence and success in calling people to Tawḥīd.

Meeting Ibrahim (AS) in Jannah

A beautiful narration in Sahih Muslim describes a moment from the Prophet Muhammad’s (ﷺ) journey of al-Isrā’ wal-Mi‘rāj where he met Ibrahim (AS) in the seventh heaven:

“I met Ibrahim on the night of ascension, and he said to me: ‘Give my Salaam to your nation and tell them that Paradise has fertile soil and sweet water, and it is a flat plain. The plants of Paradise are: Subḥānallāh, Alḥamdulillāh, Lā ilāha illa Allāh, and Allāhu Akbar.’” Sahih al-Tirmidhi

This hadith shows Ibrahim AS’s love and concern for the Ummah of Muhammad ﷺ and his presence in the highest ranks of Paradise.

Everlasting Praise and Peace

Allah ﷻ commands the believers to send peace upon Ibrahim (AS), and He Himself testifies to the blessings upon him:

سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰٓ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ

“Peace be upon Ibrahim.” As-Sāffāt (37: 109)

This divine Salaam indicates eternal peace, joy, and reward that will encompass him in the Aakhirah.

Ibrahim (AS) – The First to be Clothed on the Day of Judgment

One of the remarkable honours bestowed upon Prophet Ibrahim (AS) is that he will be the first person to be clothed on the Day of Resurrection (Yawm al-Qiyāmah). This is mentioned in an authentic narration from the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ:

“The people will be assembled on the Day of Resurrection barefoot, naked, and uncircumcised.”

Then he ﷺ said: “The first person to be clothed on the Day of Resurrection will be Ibrahim (AS).” al-Bukhari, Muslim

This Hadith highlights the immense honour and distinction granted to Prophet Ibrahim (AS) by Allah. On a day of overwhelming fear, shame, and exposure — when all of humanity will be gathered unclothed — Ibrahim (AS) will be the first to be granted the dignity of covering.

Prophet Ibrahim (AS) was not just a figure of historical significance — he is a timeless role model, honoured by Allah both in this world and the next. His devotion, trust, and complete submission made him the Friend of Allah ﷻ and secured for him a glorious position in the Aakhirah. His story inspires believers to live with purpose, submit wholeheartedly to Allah ﷻ, and work for a legacy that reaches beyond this life into eternal paradise.
